Tournament Results: "FOOTHILLS OPEN V"

The Knoxville Table Tennis Club conducted the Foothills V Open at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA on August 23, 2008 with 43-players in attendance. Players ranged from Cleveland, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia, and from Charlotte, North Carolina to Nashville, Tennessee. The play resulted in 24-upsets: the greatest upset came by the hand of young Peyton Fakharpour, from Lexington, Kentucky, in an underdog win, where he overcame a 416-point pre-game deficit to win third place in Division D.

Foothills Celebrity Open III

Table Talk: Ten area players recently competed in the Foothills Celebrity III, a nationally sanctioned table tennis tour-nament, hosted by the Knoxville Table Tennis Club on Aug. 4. The tournament attracted 51 players from eight states.

Nashville’s Shigang (Alex) Yang was the tournament’s featured celebrity player. A former world collegiate champion, Yang is ranked 11th in the nation with a rating of 2,586 points. Of the 10 area players competing, half placed in the top three spots in their respective divisions.

Six Compete at National Senior Games

Table Talk: Six members of the Knoxville Tennis Table Club competed at the National Senior Games in Louisville, Ky., during June 25-29.

70-74 age group—Bill Neely: gold in Mixed, silver in both singles and doubles; Dwain Kitchel: silver in doubles, fourth-place ribbon in mixed; Ruth Gove: gold in mixed, silver in doubles, fourth in singles.

50-54 age group—Claude Martin: fourth in both singles and mixed, fifth in doubles; Kathy McMillin: gold in both singles and doubles, fourth in mixed. (via KnoxNews.com)
