The Knoxville Table Tennis Club conducted the Foothills V Open at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA on August 23, 2008 with 43-players in attendance. Players ranged from Cleveland, Ohio to Atlanta, Georgia, and from Charlotte, North Carolina to Nashville, Tennessee. The play resulted in 24-upsets: the greatest upset came by the hand of young Peyton Fakharpour, from Lexington, Kentucky, in an underdog win, where he overcame a 416-point pre-game deficit to win third place in Division D.
The winner of the Championship Division was DiDi De Souza, the perpetual winner of this bi-annual event, from Atlanta Georgia. Complete results are as follows: Division: First Place: Second Place: Third Place: Championship DiDi De Souza Michiya Suzuki Petro Stirbu A. Babak Fakharpour Jude Lam Xiaofeng Guo B. Willy Xiao Kareem Olugbenga Roger Dickson C. John Pahl Luke Jackson David Gong D. Ron Arcaro Ian Jasitt Peyton Fakharpour E. Duke Eliacin Woody Gove Angelia Eliacin The next tournament will be held on November 8, 2008. This tournament, an idea of the Knoxville Table Tennis Club, will be unique and the first of its kind to be held anywhere. It is called the Gold Digger’s Upset Open. This is a tournament where the lowest level players can win money through three levels of upsets, not just the top players as is the usual case.
